SEUN locked the door behind her:she started to pick the oranges that had fallen off her tray; Seun was staring at her.

“Uncle bring the bowl let me put the oranges, your money is N1,500.” She said as she turned around and looked away quickly, she was scared and feeling uneasy but was trying to not make an obvious fret.

She felt it when he started coming closer, she bent down and quickly picked up her iron tray and started heading towards the door but just when she was walking past him:he grabbed her arm and brought her to his face. Her tray came crashing down with the orange balls rolling around the apartment. Tolani started shivering.

“Don’t be scared, it won’t hurt okay? I will be gentle” Seun hushed her as she was about to scream.

Tolani yanked her arm off his hold. “No!” She screamed.
But Seun grabbed her back. Seun began to yank off her trouser.
“HELP! HELP ME!”
“Stop Shouting! No one will hear you here.” Seun continued to peel off her clothes.
“Leave me!” Tolani began to wrestle and hit him as much as she could. Seun got more desperate and slapped her, he was done undressing her so he forcefully carried her to his tattered, unkempt medium size foam.

She began to cry. “Please…please…” She closed her eyes and opened it back as the tears continued to flow freely. “…please don’t so this”.

Tolani started to fight again but Seun got angry and hit her on the face twice and held her head down with one hand.

Tolani didn’t know the pain from the slaps would be nothing compared to the forceful thrust she started to feel, she was too weak to cry. “STOP…stop…” but Seun shifted his hands to her mouth and held it tight.

Seun was done. TOLANI laid too weak for some minutes then she started to crawl around for her clothes, luckily she found them and what was left was enough to cover her up:her top was torn from the neck; she took a look at Seun who was sitting staring at her, she continued looking at him till he looked away and started to scratch his head. A message notification came up on Seun’s phone and Tolani saw the time-7:02pm-immediately she knew her mum would already be worried about her because she told Tolani to always be back from hawking by 6:30.

Tolani found her tray, found some oranges and picked up her tray, headed for the door but Seun rushed from behind and held her neck: Tolani held on to her tray like it was her life: so tight her knuckles started to turn white, she could barely breathe.

“Do no tell anyone.” His voice sounded like the devil’s.
Tolani gasped. It hurt.
“If you tell anyone: I will come after you, you won’t find me here again you know but i will make sure I take your life If anyone tries to find me; you do know how it works in this country right? Why do you think you are hawking oranges? The economy is bad, corrupt. I will simply pay them off and that’s it. And your mum? Do you have a sister?”
Tolani froze in fear as she tried to blink away the thought.
“Go. And be quiet: don’t say I did not warn you.” Seun released his grasp from her neck, dipped his hand in his pocket, threw a thousand naira note in the tray on her head and opened his apartment door.

Tolani leaped out and immediately she managed to go seven feets away from the house, she staggered to a corner and gasped for air, she dropped her tray, coughed, coughed and coughed, wincing at the same time. After she got a hold of herself, barely; she straightened up her clothes.

Tolani finally got home.

“Tolani!” Mama Tolani shouted in relief as she sights her daughter.
“Èku irolè ma” (Good evening ma). Tolani muttered.
“Tolani. This is 7:41pm. I have told you not to stay out this late whenever you go. ..”
“I know mummy. “ Tolani began to drop her tray.
“My God!…what happened to you?” Mama Tolani exclaimed as she saw that her daughter’s clothes were torn and cheeks swollen. “Ki lò selè?.” (What happened?).
